Adult ADHD Assessment in White Plains
I provide comprehensive adult ADHD assessments for adults in White Plains and all of Westchester County: a single two-hour diagnostic interview, a thorough written report with diagnostic impressions and personalized recommendations, and an ADHD tools workbook delivered with the report.
The full process happens in one virtual appointment, with the written report following within 7 to 10 business days.
What White Plains adults often notice when they suspect ADHD
Your annual reviews say the same thing every year: "great when engaged," "inconsistent," "has so much potential." You've heard "potential" often enough that the word has started to feel like a critique. The work you do is good when you finally do it, but the gap between when you should start and when you start has been growing.
The commute used to be a non-issue and now it's a daily friction point. Catching the Metro-North to Grand Central means your morning is now built around a hard deadline you've started missing more often than you'd like to admit. Working from home a few days a week was supposed to make things easier, and instead the absence of the structured commute and office have left you with eight unscheduled hours that quietly disappear into tabs you didn't mean to open.
Your partner has gotten quietly used to being the one who remembers: the dentist appointment, the bill, the gift for your mother-in-law, the school form, the call you said you'd return. They stopped reminding you because reminding didn't help. Now they handle it themselves, and the resentment is showing up in the small things: the sigh when you forget what they reminded you about three times, the way they don't bother making weekend plans with you that involve logistics, the conversations that have gotten shorter.
You can focus for six hours on something that interests you and forget to eat. You can also stare at a simple task for two hours and not be able to start. The work that requires your brain to engage without being rewarding (admin, expense reports, the email you've been putting off) turns into a kind of resistance you can't will yourself through. Other people seem to open the email, write the reply, and close it again. You sit with the cursor blinking for an hour.
You've been considering whether you're in the wrong role. The job looked right from the outside, but it requires the kind of self-directed structure that consistently breaks down for you. You're not sure if the right next move is a different role, a different industry, or a different way of working entirely. The decision feels too big to make without understanding why the current setup keeps failing you.

What an ADHD answer changes
The question you've been carrying for years (am I lazy, undisciplined, depressed, or is something else going on) gets a clinical answer. You stop opening Reddit threads at 11pm trying to figure out if your symptoms match. You stop wondering if you're imagining it. You have a documented clinical assessment with diagnostic impressions, and the not-knowing is over.
You stop adding every missed deadline and forgotten errand to the lazy-undisciplined column. The story you've been telling yourself since middle school (that you're not trying hard enough, that you lack discipline, that you're not as capable as people think) has a different explanation. The next time you forget something, the meaning of the forgetting changes, even if the forgetting itself doesn't stop right away.
You bring the report home and your partner finally has clinical language for what they've been seeing for years. The conversation about the forgotten dentist appointments, the unreturned calls, the bills you said you'd handle can start somewhere different than it usually does. Where it goes from there is up to you both. What you don't have to keep doing is having the conversation from inside the lazy-or-don't-care frame.
The end-of-year review stops being the meeting you dread for two weeks beforehand. The same feedback you've been getting (great when engaged, slow to start, brilliant on the projects that catch you) has an explanation that doesn't end with "try harder." You walk into the meeting knowing what's underneath the feedback, which changes what you hear and what you say back.
You take the report to a prescriber and the medication conversation has structure instead of you trying to advocate for your symptoms from scratch. Whether stimulant medication is appropriate for your situation, and whether it works if you try it, is between you and your prescriber. The final prescribing decision rests with the medical provider. What changes is that you stop being one of many patients describing vague concerns and become a patient bringing a clinical document.
The next career conversation, with your manager, your partner, or yourself, has a clear-eyed read on what your specific brain does well and doesn't. The job decisions you've been making blind start to have criteria. The workbook offers strategies you can try (body doubling, externalized deadlines, breaking tasks down to the smallest possible first step) and the report itself becomes a starting point for working with a therapist or coach who specializes in adult ADHD.
How the assessment works
The assessment is conducted over two hours of secure video. We work through your current symptoms, how things have been since you were a kid, and how it shows up at work, at home, and in relationships. The structure uses the DIVA-5, the standard tool for evaluating adult ADHD, mapped to DSM-5 criteria. By the end of the appointment, we have a thorough picture of whether ADHD fits what you've been experiencing. Within 7 to 10 business days, you receive your written report and an ADHD tools workbook.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can adults outside of White Plains work with you? Yes. Sessions are virtual, which means any adult in New York can work with me regardless of where in the state you're based. White Plains is the home base for this page because the commuter and professional demographic profile fits the work especially well.
Does the assessment result in clear documentation about ADHD? Yes. The written report documents diagnostic impressions and clinical rationale based on DSM-5 criteria and the DIVA-5 interview. Whether or not your symptoms meet criteria, the report gives you a structured explanation of what was found and recommendations for next steps.
How does payment work? Payment is due at booking. The $900 covers the full assessment, including the interview, written report, and the tools workbook. Insurance isn't accepted for this service.
How does the assessment address the experience of being able to focus intensely on some things but not others? This split is one of the most common adult ADHD experiences, and the assessment specifically explores it. The DIVA-5 framework examines both inattention and the conditions under which focus does and doesn't work. The report documents this dynamic clearly, which is often useful for prescriber conversations and for self-understanding about why certain work has been so much harder than other work.
What can I use the report for, and what is it NOT for? The report supports prescriber conversations about ADHD medication, gives a therapist or ADHD coach a specific clinical baseline, and provides you with a detailed understanding of your own ADHD profile.
Important: this report is NOT designed to support:
Formal workplace accommodations (ADA requests for extra time, schedule changes, or other modifications at your job)
Academic accommodations (extra time on tests, note-taking support, or other modifications at school or in college)
Disability determinations (SSDI, SSI, or private disability insurance claims)
Court-ordered or forensic evaluations
Each of those typically requires a full neuropsychological evaluation, which is a more extensive process involving multiple appointments and standardized cognitive testing. If you need an evaluation for any of those purposes, please tell me before booking and I'll refer you to a qualified provider.
How do I move forward? Schedule through the online booking link, or reach out with any questions before booking. I'll respond promptly with details about onboarding.
About Your Clinician: Grace Annan, LICSW, LCSW-QS
I'm Grace Annan, a licensed clinical social worker whose practice focuses on adult experiences that don't fit standard categories: ARFID and adult eating disorders, body image work for women navigating body change, adult ADHD and autism assessments, and the overlap between these conditions.
Adult ADHD assessment is a core part of this work because so many adults arrive at the question of ADHD through long-term anxiety, depression, or burnout.
